๐Ÿ”ง Calculate EV Range

How to Use This Calculator

This EV range calculator helps you understand the real-world driver experience at your charging location. For example: "If I plug my Polestar 2 into your charger for 60 minutes, how many miles of range will be added to my battery?"
This tool assumes vehicles arrive with a 20% state of charge and calculates charging up to 100%. For high-power chargers and longer dwell times, the battery may reach full capacity before the session ends.
This tool will help you understand the driver experience and the impact of choices you'll need to make when planning your EV charging infrastructure.
Efficiency ratings (mi/kWh) are taken from OEM factsheets and may vary based on driving conditions, weather, and vehicle configuration.

Understanding Your Results

Range Added: This is the practical benefit your customers will experience - how many additional miles they can drive after charging at your location.
Energy Delivered: The actual electrical energy consumed, which determines your electricity costs and grid impact.
Charging Rate: This helps you communicate the speed benefit to customers - "Get X miles of range per hour of charging."
Business Impact: Understanding these metrics helps you choose the right charger power rating for your customer dwell times and communicate the value proposition effectively.
๐Ÿ’ก AC vs DC Charging: AC chargers (7.4kW, 11kW, 22kW) use the vehicle's onboard charger, which may limit actual charging speed. DC chargers (50kW+) bypass the onboard charger for faster charging but require more complex infrastructure.

Dwell Time
7.4kW: Ideal for overnight parking, employee charging, or locations with 6+ hour dwell times. Lower installation costs.
11kW: Good balance for 2-4 hour stays like shopping centers, restaurants, or workplace charging. Most EVs can utilize this power level.
22kW: Best for 1-2 hour visits, providing meaningful range for shorter stops. Important: Many EVs can only charge at 11kW maximum on AC chargers, so the actual charging speed may be limited by the vehicle, not the charger.
50kW: Rapid DC charging for quick stops (30-60 minutes). Requires significant electrical infrastructure investment.
โš ๏ธ AC Charging Limitation: Most EVs have onboard chargers that limit AC charging to 11kW, regardless of the charger's capacity. Always verify your vehicle's AC charging specifications before expecting 22kW charging speeds.
